House training was a problem
for cat owners. If cats were to be confined indoors, owners had
to provide boxes of sand, sawdust, or torn paper for their use.
In 1946, Edward Lowe, a salesman of granulated clay used to absorb
industrial grease spills, realized that his product could be used
by cats. He packaged it in five-pound bags, after which a multi-million
dollar industry was born. |
